Well, the summer tour just kicked off, and I decided to drive from Jersey to Virginia, pick up my brother and head out another 2 hours to Greensboro, NC for opening night! And let me tell you it was well worth the trip. This is the 5th time I have seen Van Halen, all with Sammy, never with Roth or Cherone. I never was a big fan of Roth, and I didn’t really get into VH untill the 5150 album. I seen the band 2 times on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour and 2 times on the Balance tour. And I would have to say that the show I saw the other day was the best VH show I been too! I know alot of people are complaining that they did a handful of Roth era songs, but really, to be if they did alot it would be like seeing a VH Coverband! I would have preferred a few Roth songs taken out to make room for a few more later VH tunes. Anyway here some of my thoughts on the show: You hear Hellllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooo Baby! 1. Jump 2. Runaround 3. My Generation (just a short riff) 4. Humans Being 5. Up For Breakfast (New) 6. Mike Bass Solo 7. Somebody Get Me A Doctor (Mike on lead vocals) 8. Poundcake 9. It’s About Time (New) 10. Alex Drum Solo 11. Top Of The World 12. Unchained 13. Why Can’t This Be Love? (Sam, Mike & Eddie each sang a verse) 14. Eagles Fly (Sam solo acoustic) 15. Deeper Kind Of Love (Sam solo acoustic) 16. Learning To See (New) 17. Best Of Both Worlds 18. Eddie’s Solo (Eddie cried at the end because of the chants from fans) 19. Dreams 20. Ain’t Talkin Bout Love 21. Right Now Encore: 22. You Really Got Me 23. Panama 24. When It’s Love Their were live video screens for people to see. The video for Right Now, was an updated MTV version with the right now you are hear etc statements rolling through. But with new additions. Like Right Now we will never forget with a picture of the NYFD (New York Fire Department) which was on a license plate for 911. Or a Right Now, someone is downloading this song. Right Now a solider is coming home (with an image of a welcome home sing), then Right Now, someone is not (with an image of the National Cemetary). Lots of new items in that video. During the song Dreams, Sammy came out up top on a catwalk for the whole song, and sang it up there. Looks like to give the people in the upper seats a front row feel! I also think the 3 new songs went down very well, as no one left to buy beer or anything. And also forgot to mention, that every stood up the entire show! Only people I saw sitting down were the ones passing out from drinking themselves to death… lol The arena looked sold out! I saw a few empty seats but people were running to get closer. Sammy was wearing, flags, banners and shirts throen from the corwd, and he and Eddie were signing autographs and shirts, etc throughout the show to the people they could reach. Sammy was even opening up beers and sharing them with people by giving them a cup and filling it up for them. It was an incredible show! And like George said emotional. But he also pointed out that it looked like they were having so much fun being toegether and playing. You could feel it in the songs. There were HUGE merch tables with the prices to match! Tons of shrirts and gimmicks. No tour book yet, but there were tons of pictures being taken by professioanls. Well that is all I can think of right now… but I tell ya..it WAS worth every penny and the 7 hour drive with a 2 hour detour for me! And I get to go do it again but in my backyard at the Meadowlands on the 23rd! – said theloudestrock on Jun 06, 2004
