Deen Castronovo was born August 17, 1964 and is an overly-accomplished drummer and singer, best known for his talents displayed during his time in bands like Journey, Bad English, Revolution Saints, Hole, Wild Dogs, Hardline, Fear Factory – and now with The Dead Daisies. He also has been a touring and studio member for Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, Paul Rodgers and Black Sabbath’s bassist Geezer Butler’s GZR. While working with Wild Dogs, Deen met Neal Schon, who he would later form a band with called Bad English. Connections, connections, connections!
Deen Castronovo in Bad English : When I See You Smile – 1989
Although Bad English disbanded in 1991, Deen continued his career with various bands, which lead him to join Journey (there’s a familiar name, right?), where he spent 18 years, 5 albums, and numerous hits (including ‘Never Walk Away’ and ‘After All These Years’) as the lead drummer and even as a lead vocalist on occasion. Although he wasn’t an original member of Journey, Deen served as their drummer longer than any other drummer to join the band and is still a fan favorite to this day.
Deen Castronovo in Journey : Faithfully – 2007
While still in Journey, Deen formed Revolution Saints with Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich. The band, where Deen was the lead vocalist, released its self-titled debut album in 2015 and a follow-up in 2017. Also in 2017, Deen became the new (and our favorite) drummer for The Dead Daisies, and soon after, he and the band almost immediately hit the studio to record the 2018 album Burn It Down.
Fun fact: Deen got his first drum kit at age 6.
