Slayer Still Reigning DVD (American Recordings) — Yet, more new material that isn’t new studio material. Since the release of 2001’s God Hates Us All, the almighty gods of thrash metal have released one DVD already called War At The Warfield[and a Boxset calledSoundtrack To The Apocalypse]. And now we, their adoring public, get another DVD. This product is also a very special release, seeing as this is a DVD showcasing the band playing their landmark albumReign In Blood], in it’s 28 minute demonic entirity. EHHHHH, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! The actual meat of the performance is amazing with excellent close-up camera shots of the band playing their instruments, withAltar of Sacrifice], [riminally Insane, and Raining Blood as the cream of the crop when it comes to this product. Even a couple of shots from a kid with a camera crowd surfing help capture the vibe of seeing Slayer live. Very cool stuff to say the very least! Vocalist Tom Araya’s Voice did cut out on a few occasions, but overall the band sounded sharp. Not to mention, whenever you go to see Slayer live, you will get a pretty sweet light show… this too was captured in excellent fashion. The bonus songs were cool too, especially Spill The Blood and ]Necrophiliac. The other 4 bonus songs (that get played to death at every Slayer show I have gone to for the past 4 years) even sound good as well. The interview portion of the DVD known as]Slayer In Their Own Words is probably the best part of the DVD. The band talk about everything such as their origins, fans, The infamous Wall Of Blood Effect, how the band write songs, Drummer Dave Lombardo speaks of what he has done since his abscene from the band, and fan injuries at shows! What I didn't care for was the fact that there was almost nothing from the Paul Bostaph era Slayer on the DVD Divine Intervention to God Hates Us All except footage of the Bloodline Video in the interview portion of the DVD. Also, i have to ask something… ..how cliche is it to have girls showing thier tits at rock concerts? If the band is going to have girls showing tits and tape them for a DVD, at least have some nice looking girls to do so… and not chicks that look like beat-up and / or wore-out white trash. The girls that were not acting like sluts looked a million times better than the the flashers. A few minor warts and all, this is a DVD still definitely worth owning! Price Range: Should be around 13 – 16 US dollars, nothing too terribly expensive for this product! For Fans of[: Metallica, Overkill, Accept, Chimaira, Slipknot, Hatebreed Rating 4 / 5 ] – said Joshua V. on Nov 11, 2004
I can say this performance moved me. It seemed too calculated & planned out. I didn’t like the manner that the footage was shot. Their last dvd War at the Warfield had the fan footage spliced into the performance, which was very annoying. This doesn’t have that, but isn’t much better. I do feel the interview footage was the best part of the dvd. That wasn’t supposed to be now was it?! – said sixxswine on Nov 11, 2004
Slayer live is a true bludgeoning steamroller full of heaviness but… add the actual raining blood during the Post Mortem / Raining Blood finale plus bonus tracks like War Ensemble and South Of Heaven and you have a Slayer feast! Check the interview footage too, didja know Jeff Hanneman was into punk??? Overall I say 10 out of 10! Oh and 1 more thing… SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!! 😈 Paine – said CrazyMikePaine on Jan 01, 2005
