The War Within is a must have for true rockers.
–ZRock
The War begins today – September 21, 2004 – as Shadows Fall unveil their most aggressive album to date while shattering the boundaries of traditional metal expectations. The War Within is a well-crafted opus challenging the hard rock community to embrace a record equally as revolutionary as the classic Master of Puppets was to Metallica’s career.
The five-piece stays true to their melodic edge while their musical proficiency and technical prowess show on tracks such as The Light That Blinds, Inspiration on Demand and The Power of I and I. It is the stunning emotional epic tracks, however, that give their fourth album added depth and intensity on songs like Ghosts of Past Failures and Stillness. The War Within continues to separate the group from their peers by showcasing their ability.

The War Within will debut on The Billboard 200 chart at Number 20. According to Nielsen SoundScan, The War Within has sold 39,250 copies in the United States in its first week of release.
By comparision, The Art of Balance, released in 2002, has sold 107,071 units in the U.S.
The War Within has just passed the 100,000 mark via U.S. Nielsen SoundScan sales in just under an impressive eight weeks. This accomplishment is a further testament to the band’s undying work ethic and current genre status, as it took their previous album, The Art of Balance , two years to reach this sales plateau. This benchmark achievement comes off the heels of the commercial radio success of their latest single, What Drives The Weak , and massive co-headlining U.S. tour alongside Damageplan and The Haunted, which wraps up on December 5.
In its first week of release, The War Within SoundScanned an impressive 39,251 copies, debuting at #20 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. The disc also checked in at #1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Independent Labels Chart and #2 on the Nielsen SoundScan Hard Music Chart. This is the highest first-week SoundScan and Billboard chart debut of any Century Family artist to date. Shadows Fall will embark on a U.K. tour with Fear Factory this December and a massive U.S. tour announcement will also be made soon for the spring.
Despite an earlier report by Hits Daily Double indicating that major-label A&R guys showed up in great numbers at the group’s concert last week at the House of Blues on Sunset in order to try and sign the newly available group (the band reportedly fulfilled their commitment to Century Media with The War Within ), singer Brian Fair told Metal-Rules.com in a recent interview that the group were very happy with Century Media and had no intentions of signing with a bigger label. They have seriously stepped it up in such a way that… all you can ask from a label is that as you grow as a band is that they step up and push you further and further, Fair said. I’ve been amazed at the job they’ve done for us in the last couple years. It’s been amazing to feel that support. It makes you work harder, you know what I mean? It’s just awesome. Especially being on a small label like that compared with some of the bands that we’ve seen step up to the major labels, I think we have just as much going for us as they do. Only we still have all the control (laughs).

I’ve seen them live twice – Nov 2003 on the Headbangers Ball Tour and Nov 2004 with Damageplan and the Haunted. They are very nice guys and very talented musicians. I’m currently on the lookout for the Japanese import of The War Within – it includes a bonus track – they covered Dangerous Toys Teas n Pleasn with Jason McMaster on vocals.
