Just because summer’s coming to a close doesn’t mean we still can’t rock the f*** out. No matter what the temperature’s like outside, our speakers are always HOT because of the bands we find on social media and bands that music lovers tell us to listen to. September’s social roundup includes eclectic groups all over the globe that you need to follow immediately. Turn up your speakers and let’s dig in.
Bora Ozkan (@ozkanbora98)
Location: Sinop, Turkey
Now THIS is the reason we started doing social round ups. Sure, recommendations are great, but when you stumble across something truly unique with a sound of its own, that’s the biggest win in our hearts (and in our ears). Hailing from Sinop, Turkey, this 19-year-old guitarist evokes all kinds of emotions with his solo guitar playing under the Bora Ozkan moniker. His lines are haunting without getting boring or repetitive, which is quite the task for a solo instrumentalist. You hear touches of both Western music and modes that stem from his native region. We can’t wait to see what his budding career flourishes into and look forward to supporting his work for years to come.
The Edge of Reason (@TEORofficial)
Location: Regensburg, Germany
When songs are busy, yet polished, it makes our heads turn. Right out of the gate, the vocal vocals, drums, and guitars in rhythmic unison in “Is She Worth It” draws us in. They get more bonus points for the call-and-response-type movement that exists between the vocals and the drums. When drums aren’t constantly thrashing and think of themselves as more than a timekeeper, we know we’re listening to a band worth noting. These guys look they put on a hell of a live show, so if you find yourself abroad this fall, track them down.
From Lambs to Lions (@FLTLofficial)
Location: Upstate New York
Upstate New York has been killing it in the metal scene. It seems like every month we feature an upstate band in our round up and this is no exception. Their bio reads, “From Lambs To Lions is fully equipped to convey a positive message in a way that both the young and young-at-heart can relate to. The collective eagerness to spread that message is what drives them to succeed and brave the so-called storm.” The breakdowns in “Grab Your Jacket, We’re Braving the Storm” are flawless and this is a high-energy song we want to add to our pregame list before the next night out.
Hagalma (@hagalmaoficial)
Location: Colombia
South America is another region that’s been on FIRE with metal lately. We’re loving our recent discovery of Hagalma. Our musical palate has soft spots for both melody and heavy-hitting rhythms, so “Insurrecto” captivated us. We’re loving the strings in the intro and right when you think heavy screaming is going to come in, Mauricio G’s voice floats over the groundwork laid by the instrumentalists that’s laced with the perfect amount of vibrato on the ends of notes and has the qualities to carry through stadiums. #ProTip: Make sure to listen to the video all the way through. That synth solo slays!
Falling Into Red (@fallingintored)
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
We love bands that come onto the scene and hit the ground running with no wishy washiness. Falling Into Red has only been at it since 2016, but they’re already making some serious moves and seem to be a band on the rise. “The Storm Inside” is a perfect depiction of tasteful guitar riffs mixed with a love for cinematic textures. Scott’s vocals are also slightly reminiscent of Robert Smith from The Cure, which give us even more reason to bookmark these guys and keep up on their latest happenings.
