MOTLEY CRUE’S FOUR-CD MUSIC TO CRASH YOUR CAR TO, VOLUME 1 CAPTURES THE NOTORIOUS BAND S FIRST FOUR ALBUMS PLUS BONUSES; EXPLICIT VERSION OF GREATEST VIDEO HITS DVD INCLUDES UNCENSORED VIDEOS AND EXCLUSIVE NEW NIKKI-TOMMY INTERVIEW
M tley Cr e are the bad boys of rock. Singer Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars, bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee have done it all–hit albums and singles, tours in front of millions of fans, run-ins with law enforcement worldwide, near-fatal car accidents and drug overdoses, marriages to centerfolds, and a shockingly honest autobiography aptly titled The Dirt. And now the Cr e launches the first of four volumes of a 16-CD box set and scores its first music video compilation on DVD. It’s decadent, it’s louder than hell, and it’s all M tley Cr e on the four-CD Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 and DVD collection Greatest Video Hits, each released by Hip-O Records on November 11, 2003.
Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 is a Cr e orgy that includes every track from the band’s first four albums plus demos, live recordings and alternate mixes–the complete Cr e 1981-1987. Lavishly packaged in faux iguana skin, the collection also features a 60-page booklet with essays and rare and revealing photos. The series will continue in 2004 with the next four-CD volumes of the chronologically-arranged 16-CD set that tells the story of the band to date.
We wanted to make sure this project was accessible for fans, says Sixx. So, instead of doing one enormous box set the fans couldn’t afford, we broke it up into volumes. This way they can get it all but in pieces over a period of time. It’s all the bang but not so many bucks.
Disc One of Volume 1 brings together the original Leath r Records versions and Elektra Records remixes of the band’s debut album Too Fast For Love, including the landmark title track. Disc Two reprises 1983’s Shout At The Devil, including Looks That Kill, plus a handful of demos and rarities. Disc Three focuses on 1985’s Theatre Of Pain, with the band’s first Top 40 pop hit, a cover of Brownsville Station’s Smokin In The Boys Room, and again various demos and rough mixes. Disc Four takes on 1987’s Girls, Girls, Girls, with its hit title track and a slew of live cuts and instrumental bonuses.
Greatest Video Hits is offered in both Explicit and Edited versions. The Explicit rendition boasts 21 core videos with new 5.1 mixes and stereo remastered audio–giving diehard M tley fans fresh takes on their favorite songs–plus six alternate videos ranging from the X-rated Girls, Girls, Girls to the uncensored Hell On High Heels, Misunderstood and Primal Scream to a performance ’dr. Feelgood and a 1991 remix of their signature ballad Home Sweet Home. In addition, Nikki and Tommy sat down for an interview together for the first time in years–this time to reflect on the videos. The segment is mixed with archival and personal band footage from the Cr e’s beginnings to their most recent album, 2000’s New Tattoo.
The Edited version presents tamer versions of 14 of the videos. Both the Explicit and Edited DVDs include a discography, Weblinks and a Personal Playlist feature which allows fans to experience the videos in any order they desire.
