You know we like to brag (just a little bit…) about our massive Twitter following. Nothing makes us more stoked than knowing it’s largely made up of music lovers—concertgoers, record collectors, diehard metal fans, and last, but not least, musicians themselves.
Although we don’t get to do it as often as we’d like, we love to feature artists who submit their music to us or have their killer fans tell us that we MUST listen. Here are four of our favorite picks from February.
Undead Hearts (@theundeadhearts)
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Why they rock: Full disclosure—We DO listen to damn near everything that’s sent our way. These guys were so kind to tell us we should be spinning their tracks, so we listened. If you’re a fan of anyone from Soundgarden to Alice in Chains, this 4-piece outfit is right up your alley. Their debut release features two originals and one cover (“Wonderful Life” by Failure) that is well-mixed and brilliantly produced. Draven Midnight’s vocals range from haunting to captivating and can fill in every gap in between.
Devil in the Details (@DITD_band)
Location: Omaha, NE
Why the rock: First thought—hell yeah we want to hear some badass music out of Nebraska. Second thought—any band that puts a post-hardcore spin on “Fall Out Band” gets an A+ for creativity in our book. We checked out their YouTube channel and their welcome video shows that they’re total goofballs who love their fans dearly. Basically, we want to be friends with these guys.
Karma Fire (@karmafireband)
Location: Norway
Why they rock: From the first guitar strums, our thought was “this is some classic rock-sounding ish that pleases our earholes.” Vocally, the band is reminiscent of Van Halen. Instrumentally, it sounds like Steve Vai is screaming on the guitar. We’re loving the old school “montage” feel of their video for “Heart on the Run.” It’s a little goofy, but shows that the band has a lot of heart (no pun intended). We can wait to hear more of their new record “The Shadow” available on all major music services.
Agony in the Garden (@agonynthegarden)
Location: Dayton, OH
Why they rock: One thing that immediately stood out to us is they’ve just been signed by the elite Spectra Music Group. Our attention continued to be held once we clicked on their lyric video for “Obsolete.” Later, we read more and come to find out that Mack Perry could very well be the next Trent Reznor in the essence of him putting together so many pieces of the musical puzzle for the group. We’re now hooked – “Falling in Reverse” hit stores March 10th.
SXSW (@sxsw)
Location: Austin, Texas
Rounding out our March Top 5 Social is SXSW. ZRock salutes all the bands descending upon Austin this week – especially our featured bands at Jumpstart. Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us and discover some cool live music!
