The Crossroads Guitar Festival will go down in history as one of the greatest gatherings of guitarists ever.
On a hot, sticky afternoon in June, 46,000 people gathered at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas to witness the once-in-a-lifetime congregation of musical legends at The Crossroads Guitar Festival. Warner Strategic Marketing (WSM), Reprise, and Duck are pleased to announce that on November 9, 2004 the three-day concert event will be available on a two-disc DVD set containing over four hours of extraordinary footage.
The unprecedented gathering of dozens of the world’s top rock, blues, country, jazz and folk guitarists featured artists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Santana, ZZ Top, James Taylor, John Mayer, Joe Walsh, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Randolph, Eric Johnson and many more. WSM/Reprise will release the DVD set for a suggested retail price of $29.99. Special features will include behind-the-scenes footage, artist interviews, mini-documentary, photo gallery, alternate angle viewing capabilities, and much more.
Four years in the making, Clapton’s dream-cast of some of the most revered guitarists in the world came to fruition at Crossroads on June 4-6 in Dallas. The first event of its kind, the three-day spectacular bridged musicians and fans alike through the numerous guitar exhibits, clinics and ultimately the 11-hour concert at the Cotton Bowl that raised almost $2.5 million for charity.
The Crossroads Guitar Festival started with a list of players I admire, musicians whose work on the guitar has inspired legions of others to follow the same path, said Clapton. My wish list grew into a three-day event as responses came back with resounding affirmation.
Royalties from DVD sales will also go to Crossroads Centre, Antigua, founded by Clapton in 1997 to provide treatment and education to chemically dependant persons.
The two-disc set is presented in English 5.1 Dolby surround sound and features alternate angle capabilities where the viewer can choose and toggle between several shots throughout the program. The DVD also includes behind-the-scenes footage, extended interviews, a mini-documentary, a photo gallery, and much more.
Founded in 1997, Crossroads Centre, Antigua was created to provide treatment and education to chemically dependent persons, those with other compulsive addictive behaviors, their families and significant others. Treatment is provided through residential care, family and aftercare programs. The pathway to recovery is founded on the movement toward a change in lifestyle. Crossroads Centre, Antigua also operates a 16 bed halfway-house called The Bevon House (exclusively for local Antiguan residents) and facilitates a school-based education series, Breaking the Cycle, in all local schools.

AMD64 GOES DOWN TO THE CROSSROADS WITH ERIC CLAPTON AT GUITAR FESTIVAL IN DALLAS
-AMD64 processor-based digital audio workstation to record benefit concert in DVD-A featuring Eric Clapton and other legendary guitar players-
DALLAS, TEXAS-JUNE 2, 2004-AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced that AMD64 technology is the digital audio workstation (DAW) platform of choice to record Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival concert at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Sunday, June 6, 2004. Tens of thousands of music fans are expected to attend the concert featuring a line-up of legendary guitar players. Scheduled to perform are Eric Clapton and Doyle Bramhall II, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, James Taylor, ZZ Top, Steve Vai, Robert Cray, Neal Schon, blues legend B.B. King, and many more artists. The Sunday concert wraps up a three-day first-of-its-kind guitar festival dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Crossroads Centre, Antigua, the treatment and education center founded by Eric Clapton in 1997.
The deployment of an AMD64 processor-based DAW to record the Crossroads Guitar Festival underscores a growing trend of AMD64 technology adoption in the digital audio industry. AMD64 Masters Group members and multiple Grammy Award-winning audio engineers like Phil Ramone, Elliot Scheiner, George Massenberg, Frank Filipetti and others have made AMD64 their digital audio technology of choice in the professional studio. Elliot Scheiner, a five-time Grammy Award-winner was selected along with audio recording heavyweight Ed Cherney by Warner Music to capture the live magic of these artists for an upcoming DVD release.
When I got the call to record the Crossroads Guitar Festival, I knew immediately that I wanted my AMD64 processor-based system to do the heavy lifting. I have complete confidence in the AMD64-based system, said Scheiner, a 5.1 surround sound pioneer who also re-masters classic albums on AMD64. I’m now exclusively using my AMD64-based DAW64 from Verari Systems running Steinberg’s Nuendo 2.0 in my studio. AMD64 has solved the performance, reliability and sonic integrity issues that audio engineers in the digital domain have had to live with up until now.
AMD64 technology was designed to meet the needs of the most discriminating professionals in extremely demanding environments like recording Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, said Charlie Boswell, marketing director for AMD’s Digital Media & Entertainment group. The Direct Connect Architecture of AMD64 enables an ideal balance between artistic performance and cutting-edge production power, which is already making an impact inside the professional recording studio and now in mission-critical live recording. AMD64 technology has been selected over 32-bit-only systems.
Consumers buying their next home PC wanting to enjoy music or record their own can access the same Direct Connect Architecture for AMD64 technology being used to record Eric Clapton at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor-based PCs from retailers and system builders. AMD64 technology is providing the world’s first 32-bit and 64-bit processors compatible with the x86 architecture. AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture helps eliminate the bottlenecks inherent in a front-side bus and, instead, directly connects the processors, the memory controller and the I/O to the central processor unit, improving overall system performance and efficiency. Increasing only instructions and memory address space without eliminating the bottlenecks of a front-side bus adds little value.
The expected 11-hour Sunday concert will be recorded on 48 channels in 24-bit audio mode at a 96KHz sample rate for high-resolution, DVD-A audio. The Verari Systems DAW64 based on dual AMD Opteron(tm) processors running Windows(r) in 32-bit mode and Steinberg/Pinnacle’s Nuendo 2.0 software will provide the digital backbone of the recording effort. When software optimized for 64-bit computing becomes available, AMD64 processor-based systems are designed to experience a significant performance increase with a simple software upgrade.
