To be dead honest with all the loyal readers in Z-Rock land, I personally was not too thrilled with Cradle Of Filth’s last opus ’damnation And A Day which was released through Epic Records last year. Do not get me wrong, it was a solid album with some really good material, but the album was a bit overdone musically. The album was well thought out, especially with the lyrical, art, and musical concept of Lucifer’s descent from Heaven to Hell. Somehow, Cradle’s demonic fire and brutal anger was a bit muffled on the last album. Thank goodness that Dani Filth and company avoided that pitfall with their new album Nymphetamine! No worry here folks, the band totally delivered the goods on this album, and pretty much made their most brutal and violent sounding album recorded to date! The album starts out with the a-typical creepy intro song Satyriasis, but then launches into the brutal black-metal fueled trash-fest song Gilded Cunt, which has guitar riffs brutal enough to satisfy the satisfy the attpetites of everyone from Cradle diehards to diehard black-metal haters! Track 4 Gabrielle is a very smooth black metal song, with Track 5 Absinthe With Faust showcases that Cradle can still deliver the berzerker-esque speed and technical fire that made them one of the top black metal bands in the world! The album even has 2 versions of the album’s title track Nymphetamine which is a nice little treat for the fans! There is the [i:6bc5efcd22]Overdose[/i:6bc5efcd22] version(album version) and the [i:6bc5efcd22]Fix[/i:6bc5efcd22] version (radio edit / bonus cut) which only has minor modifications to them, but shows two different sides of the song! The album was so good, for the first few days I had this album, I couldn’t get past Track 6. I was very imrpressed. I thouhgt there was no way the ablum could get any better… .and I was right, but the band kept up a good pace for the rest of the album, to deliver an overall rock-solid product! Track 7 Painting Flowers White Never Suited My Pallette was of course another one of those creepy interludes before the music starts back full throttle. All the songs after that point were very good, but the only stand out was Track 11 Filthy Little Secret, which has some exceptional rythum guitar work. For the actual album, Track 13 Mother of Abominations is the albums technical closer, but sadly enough is a bit of an anti-climatic closer… .but the Nymphetamine [i:6bc5efcd22]Fix[/i:6bc5efcd22] version recovers the album and gives it a decent closing. Overall, definitely not bad at all! Brutal and precise, this album sounds forged out of the bowls of hell. And the artwork is of an extremely dark nature, but definitly of a darker nature than most Cradle Of Filth fans are usually used to bearing witness to! This is definitely a good album to pick up, especially around this time of the year, with Halloween and Christmas fast approaching! __________________________________ www.cradleoffilth.com www.roadrunnerrecords.com – said Joshua V. on Oct 10, 2004
