Ahh, yet another tribute to a once great band, but not to worry here… .you won’t have to worry about finding Lenny Kravitz or Garth Brooks on this CD butchering up your favorite songs, because Law of Intertia decided to go ahead and have hardcore, grind, thrash, and emo bands cover the ever great Guns N Roses. Ironically, this CD came out the same day as the recycled Greatest Hits package. Only with this, this is definitely a much fresher approach to these classics. I usually do not do this, but I will be reviewing this CD track for track. Why I am doing this you might ask… because if these bands are taking time out of their schedules to tribute such a great band, then they deserve props of being mentioned and the honest criticism that comes with it. So lets get started on the review: 1.) Zombie Apocalypse Welcome To the Jungle – This band is an offshoot project of members of the dissolved Shai Hulud, and I knew this would be interesting listening when I found out who was doing this song. Sure enough, I was right! They do the intro perfect note for note, and as soon as the lyrics start, the songs goes into a lightening fast speed-metal / hardcore punk breakdown. Fun way to start the album off and a good job done by this band! 2.) Haste You’re Crazy – This song is just heavy as all hell and sounds like a Haste song written by Guns N Roses… .basically, Haste gave the song their own take. Excellent work! 3.) Vaux 14 Years – This song is just flat out horrible emo crap… is probably even horrible for emo standards! 4.) Unearth It’s So Easy – These guys are a good band, so I honestly was not surprised that they delivered the goods on this track. Honestly (and if Axl Rose is reading this, I hope he doesn’t get offended) but these guys oozed more nastier attitude on this song than Guns N Roses did when they originally recorded this track. 5.) Break The Silence Night Train – Sounds too much like the original, except with extremely horrible vocals! BOOOO! 6.) Death By Stereo Anything Goes – These guys are known for a mixture of ska-fulled-grindcore-metal, but left the grindcore metal at home, and did a ska rock version of this song… .not too bad, but nothing to write home about either! 7.) Most Precious Blood Sweet Child Of Mine – This band is an amazing act overall, but was very surprised they would go and butcher a Guns N Roses song, but they did. Vocalist Rob Fusco barked the vocals to this tender love ballad, while guitarist Rachel played these really cheesy keyboards, to what would have been Slash’s lead parts. Maybe they butchered the song as a joke, but I was expecting more out of this band. 8.) Time in Malta November Rain – This band really surprised me… ..because the production on this doesn’t sound to great, not to mention they did a 6 1/2 minute version of this song instead of the bloated 10 minute original, but man did they pull this song off with what they had and still made it sound absolutely amazing. 9.) Dillinger Escape Plan My Michelle – This band did this song in 2 takes, but managed to make the intro sound extremely creepy, with a bit of a street jazz feel… .before launching into their trademark schizo blasting grindcore style! They kinda gave this song this song the same treatment that Zombie Apocalypse did to Welcome To The Jungle! 10.) Eighteen Visions Paradise City – I ll be honest, I am not too big of a fan of this band, but I was willing to give it a listen to be fair… .and I officially have zero respect for this band after hearing them butcher this classic. The song is sung with some of the worst vocals ever put to tape courtesy of Vocalist James Hart. Not to mention, the original to this song breaks down to a thrash metal fest for the last minute, but this band managed to play that part at 1/3 of the speed that Guns N Roses did when they originally put this song on tape. 11.) Everytime I Die I Used To Love Her – This sounded like it was recorded during a relaxed jam session (which it was) and this band managed to pull the song off well. 12.) God Forbid Out Ta Get Me – This band has an uncanny knack of using their influences sounds, and making their own style out from their influences, and this is no different. At first, this honestly sounded so eerily like the original, until Vocalist Byron Davis and Drummer Corey Pierce leave their trademark vocal and drum styles all over the song… .I was left grinning! 13.) Bleeding Through Rocket Queen – This song does stay very true to the original, but sounds completely like a Bleeding Through song and is definitely the most intense track on this record! 14.) The Beautiful Mistake Estranged – Not a good way to close an album, vocals were nasily, instruments sounded out of tune, and the timing was horrible! [u:2f64e0e5fc]Editor’s note[/u:2f64e0e5fc]: What I was surprised by, was that no one did a cover of You Could Be Mine and kinda wished Most Precious Blood would have chosen that track to cover, because they have the fire and intensity to pull the song off right! I do have to admire most of these bands for their efforts (except Eighteen Visions)… .and over all this is a good buy for either die hard Guns N Roses fans or fans of any of these bands on this compilation.
