THE ALASKAN BADBOYS ARE BACK!!!!!!!! With their second offering, Alaska’s 36 Crazyfists, bring a more focused and musically solid album to the masses. I am sure you the reader have heard the first track off the album (which is the band’s first single) At The End Of August but if you have not, then not much explanation will not be needed to describe how catchy this song is… .the perfect way to start the album! Track 3 Bloodwork is where Vocalist Brock Lindow truly lets his vocal talents shine and where guitarist Steve Holt lays down thick rhythmic guitar barrages to make this song an instant classic. Track 5 Skin and Atmosphere has a very sorrowful and atmospheric approach to it, almost with a bit of a Smashing Pumpkins feel to the song! Track 6 Song For The Fisherman is where bassist Mike Whitney and drummer Thomas Noonan supply a somewhat hip-hop beat, as the background to guitarist Steve Holt’s airy guitar riffs, to musically present an accurate snapshot of a sacred part of vocalist Brock Lindow’s life in Alaska. Track 7 With Nothing Underneath is the band at it’s most vicious, with the instruments in perfect destructive harmony, to ignite the most violent of circle pits. Track 11 Waterhaul is the perfect closer to a brilliant album. Creepy guitar riffs throughout this track, give this song a bit of an emotional roller-coaster feel, yet the song is a total barrage of heavy riffs and drumming. Mixed in with alternate screaming/singing, this song is the perfectly crushing end to a whirlwind of an album. The reason I chose not to put in any lyrics in this review, because the lyrics are a bit vague, and I would rather let the listener do their own interpretation. Instrument and vocal wise, this is a near flawless album, which should command the respect of anyone who are fans of anything from Linkin Park to Hatebreed! The album artwork is very basic with nothing too fancy, except that the album cover does look like something more along the lines of a Playstation 2 video game cover, instead of a cover for a hard rock album. I personally like the album cover and is a nice change of pace from what is out there today! Overall a good product! _____________________________________________________________ Band’s Official Website: www.36crazyfists.com Label’s Official Website: www.roadrunnerrecords.com – said Joshua V. on May 05, 2004
